We Are An NGO
Morounfolu Community
Morunfolu Community in Bariga Local Council Development Area, Lagos.
Our work with the informal community is within the Morunfolu Community in Bariga Local Council Development Area, Lagos.
The Morunfolu Community with a population of 350,000.00 inhabitants have been in existence since the 70s and is historically a wetland. Lack of access to affordable housing and other economic factors lead the inhabitants to engage in a self-help mechanism of land reclamation for housing purposes. Like many other residents of low-income communities, with inadequate basic infrastructure like water and energy leading to an unsanitary environment, the residents are predisposed to various health conditions like malaria, dysentery, typhoid, and cholera with dire public health implications.
The Peter Jasten Foundation together with the community members organizes an annual sensitization workshop, providing and improving knowledge on various topics that impact the lives of the residents. As of 2022, 10 youths of the community are on scholarships in various institutions of higher learning with support from the Foundation
Our work with persons living with a disability is carried out through collaboration with the orphanages and centers for persons with disability. We have supported 10 persons with a disability from these centers to gain skills, improve capacity and become economically empowered.
